Honor Cords – Maroon
Each Maroon Honor Cords set includes two twisted cords, with a tassel on each end of the each cord (for a total of four tassels). The honor cords are shipped tied together, or separately, at your option. Each half-cord is around thirty inches long, measured from knot to end of tassel (about sixty inches long when spread out rather than folded at the knot). Each tassel is about four inches long. Honor cords are made from rayon (we do not offer silk). You can mix and match different color cords together.

Typical Uses
These maroon honor cords are typically used for recognition of individual achievement and participation. They’re generally worn during a commencement ceremony. Honor cords (chords) are used by colleges, universities, community college, high schools, and some middle schools and homeschools
Who Buys Honor Cords
Usually purchased by a member of an honors society, fraternity, sorority, or department recognition coordinator. Also for Valedictorian, summa cum laude, magna cum laude, or cum laude awards.

There are, of course, more honor societies that use maroon than those listed above. Many also use a close variation to that color. If your honor society uses maroon, and is not listed above, please drop us an email and let us know, and we will add your name to our list.
This Maroon Color
The color is listed as maroon, a reddish color. We offer two variations on reddish colors for honor cords, this one and red. If you are looking for a lighter red, we suggest you go with the red (see link below).
Shades of red include: Alizarin, Burgundy, Cardinal, Carmine, Cerise, Chestnut, Crimson, Falu red, Fuchsia, Magenta, Mauve, Red-violet, Rust, Puce, Sangria, Scarlet, Terra cotta, Vermilion, Amaranth, Rose, Hollywood Cerise, Shocking Pink. Please note that, while we do get requests for pink graduation caps and gowns, we do not currently carry the color pink. This red is the closest we have.
Schools select colors based on school colors, honor society colors, traditional recognition colors, as symbols, and based on personal taste.
Redish colors like this Maroon catch people’s attention. Red colors symbolize heat and fire. It is also one of the primary colors. Because it is one of the colors of the United States Flag, it is can also symbolize patriotism in the U.S..
For graduate hoods and academic regalia colors, red or shades of red are used to designate the degree or discipline of Canon Law, Communications, Conservation, Divinity, Forestry, Journalism, Music, Public Health, Sacred Theology, and Theology.
